Our organic Caromel Cashew butter is an earthy, malty, coconutty spread which we think tastes a bit like Maltesers-in-a-jar (but vegan)! Our stone-ground nut spreads have a smooth, but slightly coarse texture which we’d describe as being on the smoother end of ‘crunchy’ and ‘smooth’. The word ‘caromel’ goes to describe a hint of a caramel flavour, with the use of organic ground carob pod, a slightly sweet, caffeine-free alternate to cocoa.
Twice Commended at the Nourish Awards 2020.
Great Taste Judge Feedback: ‘A rich toasted coconut aroma and a tempting, tropical nose. The texture is fairly smooth, firm but spreadable. It melts well on the palate and doesn’t dry the entire mouth as in some nut butters. There are tiny granules of coconut in the texture which we found appealing. This would be wonderful on toast but equally good eaten off the spoon. There is a good tropical note which we enjoyed.’

Organic certification & awards
Meet Mike from Nutcessity- Somerset, UK
I make premium organic alternates to peanut butter using various nuts, seeds & coconut. Since late 2016, I’ve been developing recipes that are wholesome, enticing and sweetened only with whole fruit. Because I’ve got a peanut allergy I’ve never tried peanut butter — but I’m told the textures and flavours of mine are pretty different!
Out studying in Australia in 2011, I tried almond butter for the first time, and it blew my mind! Back in the UK, I started making my own, and eventually moved to Bristol where I worked for Abel & Cole and Better Food — two organic food businesses. Working at the shop, I realised there was no alternate to peanut butter that was evocative, nutritious, delicious, and organic certified. That’s when I contacted my local authority and started blending in my flat to sell jars at local markets.

Why does it say on pack ‘may contain traces of sesame and peanuts’?
Currently our nut butters are made in a factory that contains and/or stores zero peanuts. However, our manufacturer would like to make peanut butter in future. Thus, the ‘may contain’ description is in preparation for this taking place. We are looking at ways to ensure 100% separation between the peanut butter ‘line’ and the tree-nut butter ‘line’.
Tahini is made on the same equipment as our nut butter, thus our spreads may indeed contain sesame.
Do your nut butters contain any genetically modified ingredients?
No.
What’s the origin of the ingredients you use?
Coconut – Philippines / Sri Lanka
Cashews – Vietnam / India
Almonds – Spain
Walnuts – Chile
Hazelnuts – Turkey
Carob – Italy
Cinnamon – Sri Lanka
Pumpkin seeds – China
Sunflower seeds – Serbia
Dates – Tunisia
Ginger – Guatemala
Salt – Nepal
Apricots – Turkey
Do your nut spreads contain palm oil?
No. No oil, of any variety, is added.
Why do you use pink himalayan salt?
This unrefined crystal salt contains the full complement of 84 minerals and trace elements the body needs in colloidal form, so they’re easy to absorb. It’s also very tasty, and not much is needed.
Do your products have a shelf life?
Nutcessity nut butter is best before 9 months from the date of production. Once opened, it’s best used within 3 months, stored in a cool, dry & dark place if possible. No need for the fridge.
Nutcessity considers the environment throughout the business model. We don’t use plastic at all, and our labels are certified plastic-free by A Plastic Planet.
We use glass jars rather than plastic.
